What We Doing > Plantation and Nursery

Plantation of multipurpose broad leaf species

HIMCON along with the women groups in our intervention area have successfully organized broad leaf tree sapling plantation of around 16,975 saplings of Oak, Guriyal, Bhimal, bamboo covering 17 hectares of land through active community participation under this program. The women SHG’s in the villages took an active participation in planting and maintenance of this saplings. Youth groups and school children were also involved during the plantation season. The table given below shows the plantation done through various SHG’s groups supported and strengthened by HSS. It has been observed by our animators and community groups that more than eighty percent of saplings planted have survived till now.

Direct seed sowing of oaks and guriyal

HIMCON has organized the plantation of broad leaf species like Oak and Guriyal through direct seed sowing efforts in Chopriali, Bidkot, Kimsar, Ramjiwala and Dharkot villages covering 9 hectares of our focused spring sheds. Plant nurseries are being prepared for the next monsoon plantation season involving local communities and interested entrepreneurs. The women groups activated and animated by HIMCON team implemented this seed sowing drive in the respective spring sheds.

Fodder Tree Nursery Development

HIMCON is also developing a fodder tree sapling nursery of mulberry, Guriyal and bamboo to be planted during the coming monsoon plantation season in July and August.

Spice Crop Promotion Trials

HIMCON field team has successfully motivated the women farmers through respective SHG meetings and training programs in our project area for revolving the seeds of the spice crops like ginger and turmeric that have been promoted in the Kimsar region through this project. It is quite encouraging that around sixty five percent of rhizomes distributed have come back through fresh crop yields returned by the women farmers to their respective SHG’s making a nice pool of spice rhizomes to be distributed to new households thus expanding the outreach of this intervention. SHG’s wise data of spice crops revolved among the new farmers is given below.
